We are pleased to invite you to join a half-day workshop designed to strengthen core research and academic writing skills. Our primary target group is early-career researchers (PhD candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and assistant professors but anyone else is also welcome). However, as we believe learning is a lifelong process, if you are more senior and feel you can benefit from the sessions or contribute to the discussion, you are warmly welcome to join.
Participation in this workshop is free of charge, coffee and tea will be provided as well as a light lunch. There is no funding for travel or accommodation.

Speakers Bio
Prof. Danny Marks is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Politics and Policy in the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University. His research interests include political ecology, environmental justice, and climate governance, with a particular focus on Southeast Asia. A prominent advocate for addressing major environmental challenges, Dr Marks is frequently cited by national and international agencies and institutions, including NASA, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the World Bank, the European Commission, and various United Nations bodies. His regular media contributions appear in outlets such as The Guardian, Al Jazeera, and Reuters, among many others. He is also a lead author for the Asia chapter of the upcoming IPCC report on Impacts, Adaptation, and Vulnerability.
Dr. Lisa Kenney is a senior researcher at the Chulalongkorn University Transportation Institute in Bangkok, Thailand. Her work focuses on enhancing urban mobility through research centred on governance, policy and planning, low-carbon transportation, safety, equitable access, and technological readiness. Prior to joining Chulalongkorn University, Dr. Kenney held roles that bridged academia and policy. She served as a Smart Mobility Advisor for the Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council in New York State, USA, and worked as an Energy Planning Analyst for the government of Canada’s Northwest Territories. She holds a PhD in Decision Science along with Master’s degrees in Public Policy and International Development. Her international academic engagements include being a Fulbright Fellow in Thailand, an exchange student at Chiang Mai University, and conducting graduate research in Vietnam. In 2021, she was selected as one of the inaugural GIFTED Faculty Scholars—Global Innovator Faculty Towards Early-Career Development at the Chulalongkorn School of Integrated Innovation.
Prof Abel Polese is a researcher, trainer, writer, manager and fundraiser. He is the author of “The SCOPUS Diaries and the (il)logics of Academic Survival: A Short Guide to Design Your Own Strategy and Survive Bibliometrics, Conferences, and Unreal Expectations in Academia”, a reflection on academic life, research careers and the choices and obstacles young scholars face at the beginning of their career.
