Research Centre for East European Studies (Forschungsstelle Osteuropa – FSO) at the University of Bremen

The Research Centre for East European Studies at the University of Bremen (FSO) is an area  studies institute with two research departments, a library and an archive as well as a larger team  for science communication (“outreach”).

The FSO Department of Politics and Economics has a broad research profile. One focus is social  policy, where FSO is a member of the Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) “Global Dynamics  of Social Policy”. Another research topic is labour migration (with a geographic focus on  migration from Central Asia to Russia).

Academic research is accompanied by data collection projects. The department is running the  Discuss Data (DD) project, where FSO is compiling a large collection of electronic data on social  policy.

FSO has a regional focus on Central Asia, including not just social policy and labour migration,  but also broader political and economic issues. The CRC is especially interested in collaboration on labour market structures in India.
